Gary began his real estate career in 1989. During his tenure, he has represented clients in transactions totaling over $2 billion in aggregate value, which places him among the industry’s most experienced advisors. He has assisted his clients in all three major market areas, including leasing office, purchasing headquarter properties and the acquisition of large, investment grade office buildings. Gary has a particular specialty in helping clients evaluate the merits of leasing versus owning their headquarters property. In 1996, he was a founding principal of West, Lane & Schlager Realty Advisors, creating one of DC Metro’s top real estate companies focused solely on representing tenants.
Gary has been retained by a broad group of clients including local businesses, Fortune 500 corporations, trade associations, nonprofit organizations and law firms. His clients also include industry peers such as the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors®, the leading commercial real estate trade association in the United States. This experience, coupled with graduate studies in real estate finance and development, has helped hone Gary’s analytical skills and market knowledge as well as to develop a thorough understanding of transaction structures from both the tenant and owner’s perspective.
