Houston – Transwestern today announces it has appointed Josh Richards as Director of Sustainability for the firm’s Asset Services group to continue the firm’s sustainability efforts by working with an in-house steering committee and clients, company leadership and property management teams to improve building performance, reduce utilities usage and achieve operational savings. Based in Houston, Richards will be responsible for measuring the progress of Transwestern’s managed portfolio, which exceeds 225 million square feet nationally, against the firm’s sustainability strategies, objectives and performance targets.

Richards previously served as the Sustainability Program Lead at First Potomac Realty Trust, where he developed and implemented energy and sustainability programs, managed LEED certification projects and created standard operating procedures for sustainability initiatives related to waste management, cleaning and alternative transportation. Earlier in his career, he was an environmental scientist at OmniSystems Inc. and a climate strategist at Conservation International.
Richards is a LEED Accredited Professional: Operations & Maintenance and Energy Manager. He served on the Sustainability Leadership Program of the Smarter D.C. Challenge and is a board member and energy master for Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment. He received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in environmental sciences from the University of Virginia.
