Franco-German Cultural Center of Atlanta Signs 10-Year Lease at Peachtree Center

October 04, 2021

Atlanta – Transwestern Real Estate Services (TRS) announces its Atlanta Transaction Sciences team has secured a new 11,550-square-foot home for the Alliance Française Atlanta (Alliance Française) and the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta (Goethe) at Peachtree Center, a 2.3 million-square-foot mixed-use development in the heart of downtown Atlanta. Transwestern Executive Managing Director Clark Dean and Vice President Thomas Savage arranged the 10-year lease on behalf of the nonprofit organizations.

“After considering multiple options in the Midtown and Downtown submarkets, Peachtree Center was selected due to its amenity base, branding opportunities, access to current and future student population, and potential for collaboration with ownership on events that will drive brand awareness and additional revenue for the organizations,” said Savage.

Expected to open in December, the space will be co-branded as the Franco-German Cultural Center of Atlanta and strategically located on Peachtree Center’s plaza level, which offers both excellent visibility and accessibility for staff, teachers, students and guests. Designed by architect NELSON Worldwide, the space will accommodate both in-person and virtual learning, and feature a lounge, library, and state-of-the-art cultural event center.

Encompassing three hotels and over 50 restaurants and retail shops, Peachtree Center’s six buildings are conveniently connected by skywalks. The development’s owner, Banyan Street Capital, recently completed a $30 million transformation to modernize and reinvigorate the 60-year-old property, renovating interiors and exteriors and adding new amenities.

“Peachtree Center is a vibrant urban space that is home to numerous international businesses, nonprofits and government organizations, including the Belgian and German Consulates of Atlanta,” said Alliance Française Executive Director Richard Keatley, PhD. “The amenities and potential for local, regional and international collaboration are what convinced the Alliance Française and Goethe to make the move downtown.”

The Alliance Française and Goethe formed the first international Franco-German cultural partnership in 2009 when they opened a joint center at Colony Square in Midtown. Since then, the collaboration model has been recognized for its innovation and success by the French and German governments and earned the non-profits numerous commendations.

“Our students, members and cultural networks have been eagerly awaiting our reopening since our joint center closed last year amid the pandemic,” said Goethe-Zentrum Executive Director Oliver Gorf. “We are beyond thrilled to renew our partnership with Alliance Française and enter a new era of Franco-German cooperation in the heart of Downtown Atlanta.”
