Rockville, MD – Transwestern today announces Sofive Soccer Centers has signed a 55,000-square-foot sublease at 1008 Westmore Ave. in Rockville, Maryland. The property will be converted from a warehouse to an eight-field indoor soccer facility slated to open in fall 2018. Guy Copperthite and Jim Darby of Transwestern represented the sublandlord, Barrons Enterprises Inc, and Jared Ross of CBRE represented Sofive in the transaction.
“We received a lot of interest in this property from sports groups,” said Copperthite. “It’s a unique building because it is column-free with clear ceiling heights ranging from 22 feet to 40 feet, making it well suited for Sofive’s indoor soccer operation”.
Sofive specializes in urban indoor soccer centers with small-sided turf fields designed for games with five players per side instead of the traditional 11 players. SoFive currently operates two locations in Meadowlands, New Jersey, and Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, and it has planned to open new locations in Brooklyn, New York, and Columbia, Maryland, in fall and winter 2018-2019, respectively. Each location is equipped with bar lounges, pro-shops and locker rooms and offers field rental, soccer leagues, corporate events and birthday parties.
“We opened our first Sofive location in New Jersey, just outside New York City, in 2015, and the business has really taken off since then,” said Sofive CEO and Co-founder Charles Lagayette. “There are lots of soccer players in the U.S. but very few high-quality indoor soccer fields. In the first year of operations, the New Jersey location received more than 200,000 visitors. We’re really excited to be opening Sofive in Rockville this fall.”
