Built in 1945 for Neil B.McGinnis, the space was designed as a showroom and distribution space for Allis-Chalmers. Buchanan Forty Five was originally designed by Edward L.Varney of Gilmore & Varney who studies under Frank Lloyd Wright. Varney went on to build other Phoenix icons such as the Hotel Valley Ho in 1956, and the Phoenix Municipal Building in 1962.
Buchanan Forty Five gets its name from the historical impact the building had on the neighborhood in the 40's and 50's, as well as its current address, where its continued relevance and presence stands as a strong testament to the success of the city's emerging creative and tech scene.
